What after the F-35?

Coverpage of one of the many T-45 manuals you can find on public access U.S. Navy sites, like CNATRA website. Although the T-45C NATOPS is not available to the public, these manuals are a very interesting read for any naval aviation ethusiast...and made me realize some of the mistakes in my T-45 model.

I've received several emails asking what would be my next project after the F-35, and, while the Lightning II is not yet out of the door (nor is the Beta1 at the moment I am writing) I have a clear idea on what I will do next.

And it will be the T-45 again. Ok, I know this may be a disappointment, especially for some Italian friends that were waiting for Italian plane (like the Aermacchi 339 or 346) - but I managed to get my hands on a lot of T-45 documents (in fact most of the Navy flight training course docs are publicly available from the Navy sites - with exception of the Natops) and found that my T-45 rendition is inaccurate on several aspects.

This new project would have:
- completely new visual model: an even more accurate 3d model, hi-res textures and with all the tricks I've learned in the past two years.
- an even more accurate cockpit, with optimized geometry and as close as I can to the Navy docs
- better flight model
...and any enhancement or suggestion that I've received in the past years

In short, I'd like to bring the T-45 project up "one-notch" - the scope would be to provide the community with an even more effective and accurate education and training tool for virtual naval operation. The project will be freeware - as the target is knowledge sharing. I am considering an "optional" payware version with some extras (like the rear seat cockpit) to cover some development costs, but those may be well covered by the F-35 - so it is just an option.

Lol, I think you'll end up with a lot more than you think.

Dino, Brilliant news. Glad to see you have enthusiasm for the Goshawk update. I have seen many good comments about your Goshawk because it is so useful as in the real world for learning about Deck Landing and in the transition to the FSX Hornet.

Yes the online sources for PDF documents about the Goshawk are excellent. Here is a useful URL for a list of all T-45C docs available: https://www.cnatra.navy.mil/pubs/ppub_t45_str.htm

I was hoping for the F-35C, but as long as your next project is a carrier-borne aircraft I am happy :) Your T-45 is a great plane to practice carrier landings and formation flying!

All, as usual, thanks for your interest in my projects!

@SpazSinbad
That is exactly the link where I took most of the documents I have. Very interesting read indeed!
Also, thanks again for the documents you sent me - that was the missing piece of the puzzle

By the way I would shoot for a complete remake, rather than a update...

@Neutrino
The F-35B and F-35C are still a possibility - it is largely depending on the results of the Beta 1 (and the resulting amount of work).

@Anonimo 1
I'm pretty happy with the F-14D, although a couple of bugs slipped into the latest release.
Still, I the F-14D could be even better - I know. But the complexity of the F-14 is such that it may well require a full team to raise the bar... Still, I am a Tomcat fanatic (due to Top Gun indoctrination when I a teen) so I'll never be completely satisfied about it...

@Anonimo 2

I'd be interested in doing a little beta testing of the modified Goshawk. I've got about 100 hrs or so in one at the moment. I can also provide good detail pictures of you need them. There's nothing classified on the T-45C so it shouldn't be a problem.

I'm told the current edition of 'Air Forces Monthly' has a six page article about USN CarQuals with T-45C on USS Carl Vinson. Cover graphic here: http://i842.photobucket.com/albums/zz349/ontheroger/cqmag.jpg

OOPS! It is the USS Harry S Truman as Carrier....

@ SpazSinbad (and others)

Interesting read, thanks! - still, it will take several weeks before I will have the time to work on the new Goshawk...

Considering that I plan to redesign most of the graphics / modeling it is likely that the Alpha build will be ready in September or October...

Hi Dino
The F-35 looks like its coming along well, and all the best with the T-45.

just a request,
would you be able to make a model of the F/A-18F

kind regards,

Matt Kleverkamp

Don't know myself what the changes to .air file are but here (for Dino) is perhaps a source of testing for the next Goshawk update? 'Made some changes to the T-45 .air file':
